Middle School

Year 6 to year 9

At Bowden Brompton Community School, students engage in a core curriculum that includes Literacy and Numeracy development aligned with the Australian Curriculum. The core curriculum also includes a Life Skills program, supporting students to develop practical skills for everyday life.

In addition to the core curriculum, students engage in Choice Subjects, which provide a variety of interest-based learning opportunities that encourage students to explore their passions and develop new skills.

All students have three individual learning goals: Literacy, Numeracy, and Personal and Social. These goals are monitored, reflected upon and reported on throughout the term by both staff and students.

Numeracy

At Bowden Brompton Community School, our Numeracy Program uses a consistent whole-school approach to build confidence, understanding and independence in maths. Aligned with the SA Curriculum, learning is differentiated to each student’s strengths, needs and goals. We provide explicit teaching, hands-on materials, visual supports, regular revision, and purposeful problem solving to deepen understanding. Students work on individual numeracy goals, apply maths in real-world contexts, and have their progress monitored and shared with families throughout the year.

Literacy

At Bowden Brompton Community School, our curriculum is aligned with the South Australian Curriculum, with learning differentiated to meet each student’s strengths, needs and goals. We provide a knowledge-rich curriculum in which students explore English content through units that build background knowledge and vocabulary. This approach strengthens students’ ability to problem-solve, reason, and think critically and creatively about subject knowledge.

Embedded within these units is a strong pedagogical focus on explicit teaching, alongside a targeted reading intervention program that supports students who have made limited progress in reading.

Life skills

At Bowden Brompton Community School we aim to equip students with essential life skills, promote well-being, and foster personal development. This program includes

  • Berry Street Education Model
  • Australian curriculum Health Education
  • Choice Theory
  • Child protection curriculum
